Sydney, located on Australia’s east coast, and is the state capital of New South Wales. In the 2014 Innovative Cities Index of 445 cities, Sydney is ranked in the top 20 cities globally and 3rd in the Asia Pacific region.

Sydney hosts a large number of global information and communications technology (ICT) firms including Google, IBM, Atlassian, Dimension Data, Dropbox and Microsoft. HUAWEI which registered in Shenzhen, China, also spent $30 million Australian dollar to establish a national trading and innovation center in Sydney. 60% of Australia’s regional ICT headquarters and operation centres are based in Sydney. 64% of Australia’s tech startup companies are located in Sydney as of 2013.

New South Wales has an active sister state relationship with Guangdong Province. It is one of the City’s most important and enduring partnerships, with mutual benefits across technology & innovation, economic, trade relations and so on. Sydney was ranked in the top ten for ‘intellectual capital and innovation’ out of 30 cities in the 2014 PwC Cities of Opportunity Report. This report includes variables relating to the innovation cities index and the entrepreneurial environment. Just as Premier Li said: “Do business, but always be an innovator”. Therefore, in order to attract more international innovation talents, there is no doubt that Sydney has been chosen to be one of the devisions for the 1st Innovation Competition of International Talents, Shenzhen, China.
