Shenzhen is a coastal city located in southern China, bordering Hong Kong. Situated in the southern part of Guangdong Province, it lies on the eastern bank of the Pearl River Estuary, with Daya Bay and Dapeng Bay to the east and the Pearl River Estuary and Lingdingyang to the west. As China's earliest, most successful, and most influential special economic zone established during the reform and opening-up period, Shenzhen serves as a core city within the Greater Bay Area. It is widely recognized as one of China's most innovative and dynamic cities, often referred to as "China's Silicon Valley."

Shenzhen is a hub of technological innovation, which constitutes its most defining characteristic. The city is renowned for its advanced manufacturing industry and comprehensive industrial supply chain. It is a major center for the convergence of technological resources, talent, and capital. In 2025, a total of 38 enterprises from Shenzhen were included in the Fortune China 500 list. Additionally, the trading volume of stocks on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange ranks first in Asia and third globally.
