Overview

Pingshan District covers an area of approximately 167.72 square kilometers and comprises six subdistricts—Pingshan, Kengzi, Longtian, Shijing, Maluan, and Biling—with 24 communities under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2024, the district had a registered population of 206,100 and a permanent population of 769,900.

 

Pingshan's transportation
Pingshan is home to Pingshan High-Speed Railway Station, the only high-speed rail hub in eastern Shenzhen. Additionally, Shenzhen Metro Lines 14 and 16 operate in the district, while the third phase of Nanping Expressway and the Outer Ring Expressway have been completed, further enhancing connectivity.

 

Pingshan's leading industries
Pingshan has vigorously implemented the "6+3" industrial cluster development plan, aiming to upgrade key industries such as intelligent connected vehicles, semiconductors, integrated circuits, high-end medical devices and biopharmaceuticals to enhance their global competitiveness. The district is also fostering new growth areas in future industries, including cell and gene therapy and low-altitude economy.

 

Pingshan's innovation
In 2023, its R&D expenditure grew by 27%, maintaining double-digit growth for two consecutive years, and its share of regional GDP rose to 9.7%, with the enterprises contributing over 98% of the R&D investment. In 2024, the number of valid domestic invention patents reached 13,700, an increase of 24%, while PCT international patent applications surged by 60%, ranking second in growth rate citywide.

 

Pingshan's ecological environment
Over half of the area of the district falls within ecological conservation zones, earning it the title of "National Ecological Civilization Demonstration Zone". The Maluan Mountain Country Park features expansive virgin forests and Shenzhen's largest natural waterfall system. Meanwhile, the Pingshan River, one of Shenzhen's five major rivers, flows through the district, creating a picturesque landscape of "half mountains and rivers, half city".

 

Pingshan's cultural heritage
Pingshan houses historical and cultural sites such as the Former Residence of Zeng Sheng and the Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall, as well as Hakka cultural heritage, including the "Dawan Settlement" and "Shuiyuan Settlement". Local traditions like the Qilin Dance and Waist Drum Dance have been recognized as provincial and municipal intangible cultural heritage, blending traditional culture with contemporary urban life.
